Shanghai in April is vibrant and in full bloom. The highly anticipated CHINAPLAS 2024 officially commenced today at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), running for a four-day showcase from April 23 to 26. This year’s event has reached an unprecedented scale, with the number of exhibitors hitting a historic high of 4,420—a 12% increase compared to the 2018 Shanghai edition—spanning a total exhibition area of 380,000 square meters.
Recently, “New Quality Productive Forces” has emerged as the defining keyword in the market. CHINAPLAS 2024 closely aligns with this trend, focusing on nearly ten strategic emerging and future industries, including New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), hydrogen energy, advanced materials, innovative medicine, biomanufacturing, commercial aerospace, and the low-altitude economy. These sectors are currently experiencing a surge in innovation. Taking the NEV sector as an example: in 2023, China’s NEV production and sales grew by 35.8% and 37.9% year-on-year, respectively, with annual exports surging by 67.1%, accounting for over 60% of the global market.
Behind every industrial breakthrough is the robust support of upstream suppliers providing cutting-edge materials, equipment, and processes. Within the “high-tech ocean” of CHINAPLAS 2024, a vast array of innovative solutions that push the boundaries of downstream applications are on display:
Automotive & Energy: Silicone-based special elastomers for NEVs, lightweight and efficient thermal management solutions, recyclable materials for solid-state battery packs, halogen-free flame-retardant reinforced PA66 for high-voltage connectors, and POE materials and ETFE films designed to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic modules.
Medical & Bio-based: Medical-grade PLA, PEEK 3D printing consumable extrusion equipment, and biodegradable implanted bone nail injection molding technology.
Sustainability & Advanced Manufacturing: Customized recycling solutions for packaging, PHA-based modified materials, and high-strength, high-stiffness materials tailored for aerospace, aviation, and rail transit.
The exhibition features more than 3,800 mechanical exhibits and over 1,500 raw material suppliers. With 200 global or Asian technological debuts, CHINAPLAS 2024 is a testament to the high technological density and innovative spirit of the modern rubber and plastics industry.
